Fake Prostitution Sting In New York

I wanted to complain about the unfair arrests that are going on in New York
City. Gay men are allegedly being approached in sex shops by undercover
officers and being propositioned for sex. THEN, the officer says they want to
pay the man for the sex. Before the target can accept or refuse, the officer
then arrests him. This kind of thing has been going on for years in various
cities around the country, and all it indicates to me is that it is a horrible
misuse of the funding to the police force.

Here are my concerns/thoughts:

1) Why is it still acceptable for police officers to target gay men, who are not
soliciting or looking for prostitutes, but are being sought out by police?

2) I am a strong proponent for the legalization of prostitution. I know that
there are many sides to this issue, but I feel that the use of police officers
to track down and arrest prostitutes is a gross misuse of their time. People
who work as prostitutes might be there because they’ve fallen on hard times,
have a drug problem that needs feeding, or they may just enjoy having sex with
strangers. Prostitution in itself shouldn’t be a concern of the police.

3) Gay men looking for casual sex does not equal people trolling for
prostitutes.
